Asiatic Dowitcher
Limnodromus semipalmatus

First reported on 11 November 2004 at Leeupan in Benoni near Johannesburg. This represents the first record for Southern Africa and the second for Africa, with a previous record from Kenya in November 1966. This bird has already created quite a stir amongst local birders with many people coming from all over the country to see it. It has subsequently being moving between Leeupan and another nearby pan, Glenshaft Pan, where this photograph was taken.

Photographed by Jenny Norman.
